Andrew Randall

Andrew Randall is a British born baritone who is a member of the chorus of Opera North.

    Biography

    Derbyshire-born baritone Andrew Randall has built a diverse career since earning his Master’s degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. A former international archer who nearly qualified for the 2012 Olympics, he has held principal lay clerk positions at Birmingham and Worcester Cathedrals and performed with Ex Cathedra, the Armonico Consort, and the Lassus Consort.

    Recent engagements include principal, ensemble, and cover work with Opera North (Peter Grimes, La Boheme, Pass the Spoon, The Flying Dutchman, La Traviata, Orfeo ed Euridice, The Pearl Fishers, Falstaff, La Rondine, Ariadne auf Naxos, Double Bill, Così fan tutte) and The Grange Festival (Macbeth, Yeoman of the Guard, The Rake’s Progress, Tosca). Andrew has covered and performed roles for both Opera North and The Grange Festival such as, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Schaunard (La Boheme), Sid (Albert Herring), Harlekin (Ariadne auf Naxos), Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), and Demetrius (A Midsummer Night’s Dream).

    Andrew’s competition successes include winning the Andrew Downes Contemporary Music Competition, John Ireland Music Prize, Edward Brooke’s English Song Prize, and Ashleyan Opera Prize. He was also runner-up in the Mario Lanza Opera Competition, Edward Brooke’s Lieder Prize, Cecil Drew Oratorio Competition, and Cameron Smith French Song Prize, as well as a finalist in the Somerset Song Prize.

    Andrew lives in Gildersome, is busy teaching singing at Shrewsbury School, Wakefield Grammar School, Westbourne School and sings regularly with the choir at Sheffield Cathedral.
