Claire Lees

Claire Lees is a British soprano and a member of the chorus of Opera North.

Biography

Claire Lees was born in Lancashire and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She is an alumna of the Samling Artist programme, winner of the 2019 Wil Keune Mozart Prize at the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition and a recipient of an Opera Awards Foundation bursary.

Opera includes: Susanna, Le nozze di Figaro; Naiad, Ariadne auf Naxos; La Musica, Orfeo; Governess (cover) The Turn of the Screw (Garsington); Semele, (cover) Semele, Yniold, (cover) Pelléas et Mélisande (Glyndebourne Festival Opera); Venus, Venus and Adonis (Blackheath Halls Opera); Barbarina, Le nozze di Figaro, Oscar, Un ballo in maschera (Opera Holland Park); Adina, L’elisir d’amore (Iford Arts); Princess, L’Enfant et les sortilèges (VOpera); Lauretta, Gianni Schicchi (Barbican Hall); Sœur Constance, Dialogues des Carmélites (GSMD). She has performed at Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, Cadogan Hall, St John’s Smith Square, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Peterborough Cathedral.

Claire is a member of the Chorus of Opera North, and her roles for the Company include: Susanna, Le nozze di Figaro. Pamina, The Magic Flute. Lisette, La rondine. Despina, Così fan tutte (Nevill Holt Festival). Daniel, Susanna.

Claire will return to Garsington in 2026 to sing the roles of Minera and Amore in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisses.
