Eleanor Jarvis

Eleanor is a Sheffield-based choral conductor who is Director of Music for Steel City Choristers.

    Biography

    Eleanor Jarvis is a graduate of the University of Manchester, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Music, specialising in vocal studies and conducting under the guidance of Kathryn Rudge and Robert Guy.

    Based in Sheffield, Eleanor enjoys a varied career as a freelance musician, working as a choral conductor, musical director, and educator. She is currently the Director of Music for the Steel City Choristers, Assistant Director of Music at St Mark’s Church, Broomhill, and a Music Tutor for Sheffield Music Hub, where she teaches vocal studies and directs the Youth Voices choir.

    Eleanor has conducted services and performances in renowned venues including St Paul’s Cathedral (London), Berlin Cathedral, Thomaskirche (Leipzig), and Winchester Cathedral. She has collaborated on performances of major choral and operatic works including Bach’s St Matthew Passion, Dove’s The Monster in the Maze, and Bizet’s Carmen. Most recently, she was appointed Assistant Musical Director of the Royal Northern College of Music’s Community Opera.

    As a freelance conductor, Eleanor has worked with a range of ensembles including the Hallé Ancoats Community Choir, NEW Voices, Meraki Choir, The Lindow Singers, Crosby Capriol Singers, Semitone Singers, and Blackpool Symphony Orchestra.

    She was selected as an Emerging Leader with the Royal School of Church Music for 2024–2025 and has taken part in conducting masterclasses with the Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal Philharmonic Society, the Cardiff International Academy of Conducting, and Musicfest Aberystwyth. Through these, she has worked with esteemed conductors such as David Hill, Stuart Overington, Neil Taylor, Hilary Davan Wetton, Ellie Slorach, Jonathan Mann, and Toby Purser.

    A committed singer and chorister for over a decade, Eleanor has performed with choirs such as Sheffield Cathedral Choir, St John’s Church Choir (Ranmoor), Ad Solem, The Cosmo Singers, and the University of Manchester Chorus. She has sung in prestigious venues including Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral, and has toured extensively across the UK and abroad.

    Eleanor is currently studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Education and Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she is mentored in conducting by Mark Heron and Stuart Overington. She continues her own vocal studies in Sheffield with Vivien Pike.
