Esme Greenwood is 15 years old at the time of her debut with us and comes from Sheffield, where she is a pupil at Tapton School. She began learning the violin at the age of 6 with Rebecca Francis, and subsequently with Jan Repko. She currently studies with Catherine Yates at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music.
In 2022, she participated in the MusicAlp international Summer School in Tignes, France, performing the de Beriot Violin Concerto no 7. She won the Open Strings Class at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival when she was 12, and was selected to perform Svendsen’s Romance for Violin in the Gala Concert.
In addition to solo work, Esme is a very enthusiastic orchestral and chamber musician. In 2024 she became one of the youngest players to be awarded a place in the National Youth Orchestra, performing in some of the country’s major concert venues, including the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
Chamber music coaching sessions at the Junior RNCM have given Esme the opportunity to explore the string quartet and piano quartet and quintet repertoire, which she thoroughly enjoys. Her string quartet have been chosen to represent the college at a number of external events such as the annual RNCM Strings Festival, a recital for Rhyl Music Club, and the BBC Big Night of Musicals at Manchester Arena.
