Emilie Mayer
Emilie Mayer was a pioneering nineteenth-century German composer whose powerful symphonies, overtures and chamber music combine Romantic expression with confident orchestral craftsmanship.

Emilie Mayer was a German composer whose ambitious orchestral and chamber music established her as one of the most accomplished female composers of the nineteenth century. A pupil of Carl Loewe and later based in Berlin, she composed eight symphonies, overtures, concertos and numerous chamber works. Her music combines the structural discipline of the Classical tradition with the expressive power and orchestral colour of the Romantic era. Although highly regarded in her lifetime, Mayer's music was largely forgotten after her death and is now enjoying a growing revival.
